Latest News; BAD NEWS!

After I finished my chores and had my breakfast on one Sunday morning, I sat down on one of the couches in my house's front room and had a look at that day's newspaper. I liked to be updated and aware of the latest occurrences, all over the globe. But I turned aghast  when the only news I saw on the front page was that of violence and loss of several lives due to a natural disaster. I then turned over to the other pages, but was disheartened to see many such similar news almost until the last page.

All articles spoke of murders, warfare, robberies, corruption, human abuse, poverty and natural calamities.

Somewhere in between them, I finally saw a glimpse of light when I saw a small article on

some latest advance in science. Also, I felt pride in myself and my country when I read

an 'eight-lined' article on soldier who lost his life while stopping illegal intruders from entering the country.

The final pages were that of sports, of which I voluntarily read all details. Hey! The Cricket

World Cup 2023 is happening in India! As I had nothing else to do and as my mind

hadn't collected much worthwhile news, I switched on a 'news-channel' on the television.

But here too, 'history repeated itself again' as I went through the same ordeal as I had, when I browsed

the newspaper. Here also the news was of violence, bloodshed, people's tears and those who had caused all these problems. They reported in the news a lot about terrorists, gangsters, human rights' abusers and corrupt politicians. In the last few minutes a program was shown on the channel, where the public can voice their unadulterated and unedited opinions, freely. But this program lasted just for a few minutes after which they switched to advertisements.

Here is a sample...

I frustratedly switched off the television and closed my eyes, leaning my head on the backrest of the couch. I then thought, why do all news reporters always talk about the many terrorists who take a few lives, when they can talk about our honorary soldiers who save the entire nation?

  • Why do they talk about the robberies that have occurred, when they can talk about the robberies that have been prevented by the police department by risking their lives?
  • Why do they report a lot about violators of human rights, when they can speak about the prized few who contribute a lot to the uplift of the poor, needy and handicapped?
  • Why do they focus so much on people who have lost their lives and gone, when they can tell the tales of those people who have survived from such fatal incidents, and now struggle to further stay alive?
  • Why do they speak a lot about the many corrupt politicians, when they can praise the few politicians who remained incorrupt and put a lot of effort into successfully running the land that they were born to?

Why at the cost of a lot of good news, are these channels and newspapers reporting some bad news?

The 'press' might argue that the world is only full of bad news today and they are just reporting the truth as it is. But this is not true! There still remains a lot of good news in the world. It is only that people fail to see it. Medicine has advanced a lot and cures of diseases, which had formerly been considered incurable have now been discovered. Science has progressed so much that lives of people have been made much easier.

Many times, people may observe that solutions to recover the failing economy which senior economists take a lot of time to uncover, have been readily discovered by students of just school age. There are several budding artists of different arts, businessmen and sportsmen in the country who just need a little encouragement and polish to shine in the world. Why can't these people be reported?

Areas which have been left untidied by the government for years, have been manually cleaned by civilians with no motive of profit on their minds. Even the government asks for tax for just basic duties! Can't these people be brought to the spotlight?

Unfortunately not many realize that the world is still beautiful. It is how we live and how we think, think that makes the world what it is. Many people find the world a bad place, because they see it through their 'bad' eyes, which have become poisoned from experiences. For them there is never the “LATEST NEWS!”. For them it is always the “LATEST BAD NEWS!”
